the Media first called Gore states the red states, but realized that made them look like the commies they were so they switched to blue states

"This was way back in 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote."

Well, the electoral college was a compromise to get the southern rural states on board, granting the masters 3/5ths of a vote that the masters could cast on behalf of their slaves, which they no longer have.

So, why don't we fix THAT, so an urban vote would count as much as a rural vote in presidential elections? Rural states STILL get two Senators, even though their populations might not even add up to ONE of our largest cities.

" It's the media that started pushing this "blue state red state" nonsense thanks to the electoral maps."

True. But the Right took the ball and ran with it. The media loves simple ideas, especially those illustrated in primary colors.

CJ, > But that was an issue which had been buried to a large extent until the Right started to push it during the Bush administration.

Are you kidding me? It's the media that started pushing this "blue state red state" nonsense thanks to the electoral maps. This was way back in 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote. Political pundits from all over were talking about the different demographics of the states Gore won, a.k.a. "blue states," vs. the states Bush won, a.k.a. "red states."

It doesn't matter who pushed it......there are significant differences between the two groupings and those differences have been made very public. Truth be told that was not in the best interests of the right. When Bush was elected, they made a big thing about how they were more patriotic, had better family values, less divorce, were more honest, were less corrupted, more religious etc. It turns out it was all a bunch of BS.

And more importantly, many of us independents and liberals who had been oblivious to the cultural wars brewing in the 90s suddenly were made aware of how bad things had gotten. Now for probably the first time in the history of this country, liberals and independents are extremely well organized and are fighting back. That means the rights main tactic....which is too squawk very loudly isn't working this time.......and since they are very much the minority, things are not looking good for them.
