NASDAQ volume on Tuesday, although a record, was less than 150% of average levels -David Carr

Not so. Average NASDAQ volume is around 650 million shares per day. Tuesday, NASDAQ did roughly 1.37 billion shares or approximately 200% average daily volume. In fact, it was actually 143% of its prior record! This is kind of like running the 100 meter sprint in 6 seconds.

And NASDAQ itself strained its technology to the point that some of it failed around 3:15pm est and was out the rest of the trading day.

David

In two cases I waited for around half an hour to try and confirm market trades, by which time the price had moved so much the trade wasn't worth it, but I was unable either to confirm or cancel until I found out much later that the trade had in fact gone through at a totally unsatisfactory price.

If you were to have followed market news for Monday and Tuesday you wouldn't be bitching about 1/2 hour delays on confirms. The simple fact is that confirms were delayed everywhere for everybody for a long as an hour or more, the MM couldn't take the time to send them. But then again Datek should I guess know that the market maker accepted your order and the price he accepted it at instantly, even though the MM didn't send the confirmation. Right???

Some times the lack of intellegence of complaints here goes beyond the rediculous.
