MQ, is that the wisdom you were talking about? Is that you want me to pay for? next time just ask: Elmat how that wild cat mining compare with setting up an mobile operation.

I will reply: A mobile is a legitimate business. Operator buys a license, he gets a piece of spectrum, he sets the company up, generates lots of business and pays corporate taxes and earn a profit providing a public good.

A wildcat mining outfit is not a legitimate business. A couple of guys try to go there and exploit a vacuum of money, know-how and techmology.

The local ilegitimate make a 100 bucks. He can make a 100.000.
Locals are every happy for them to join in. Then they start making money the locals want the cargo for themselves. End as it should.

To be able to operate legitimaly -like the mobile operations- one need strong local partner. Thus countries have locals who can join in for the ride, get a share of the takings just to make sure things do not get out of hand.

As countries graduate in terms of civilization, their citizens climb the Maslow pyramid and they become more accostumed to solve problems using civilized dmeans and stop resorting to violence.

They tend to send their kids to school and the kids become more literate and society progresses and they eventually, stop making too many babies.
Birth rates go down. Each kid now is worth more since there are fewer of them. Parents can invst more in them.

Then there will be more people producing then kids growing up and the country enters the Deographic Window. Then nothing can stop the country anymore.

Now how about that for wisdom?

Heheh even I couldn't see how Maurice could bring Helen Clark into the plight of the Kenyan miners. This is beyond obsession into monomania.
