Yes, a ton of money has been spent in education and drug research to combat it. As a result, AIDS is no longer the scourge it clearly could have been. Big Bad Anglo Pharma to the rescue.

I think elmat's zaniness on the issue is related to the fact that Big Bad Anglo Pharma has been at the forefront. Not some obscure (but incredibly brilliant) Brazilian scientist working at home in his kitchen.
