Indeed. And Piggie, even if he had the brains, would likely be snuffed out in a 'law of the jungle' setting, as the writer realized. Survival of the 'fittest' in terms of humans is, I think, often misread. Without a 'civilized' society, the meanest and nastiest survive, unbound by conventions and laws that check their behavior. There are all manner of reasons posited for women preferring a 'civilized' society... but beyond the Congo, where 'freedom' means that they are raped to point of death and horrid illnesses, there is Afganistan, where 'freedom' to the Taliban means blowing up schools for girls and taking the freedom of girls. Men have been blessed through the ages by the generally unwillingness of women to take up arms against them.
