Why should a person who does all of there own research, has all there own contacts, and is responsible for everything but the actual trade be forced to pay the exorbitant amounts many full service brokers charge.

If I do everything on my own then obviously I shouldn't have to pay for all of those 'extra' broker services. However, the ability to execute a trade in a timely fashion is something even the deepest discount houses must be able to provide....unfortunately they all couldn't yesterday. Hopefully, they will upgrade their systems for the next volatile cycle.

Discount brokers offer lower rates because we don't need advice. There is no implicit agreement to sit on the back of the bus during a buying opportunity.
