The Chinese news agency has announced that since the first line for producing VCD players was built in China in 1994, the production capacity for these players has grown every year by a factor of 10 to reach over 10 million sets per month at the present. A representative in the Chinese electronic industry ministry said that capacity was under 20,000 sets/month in 1994. The market for the players was low in China, and almost all were exported. There are 380 makers of the product in China now, and they account for 80% of domestic sales.
