Pew is a lefty foundation. The poll was of a couple thousand members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. You don't have to be a scientist to belong to the AAAS. They simply assumed the members would be. I'm guessing most members are simply subscribers to Science magazine. Might be scientists. I'd guess libraries, academic departments are the biggest subscribers.
