Maybe he can commend them for not endorsing Obamacare.

Connie Tippett's claim that AARP is asking seniors “to vote yes on Obama's health plan” is a misrepresentation (Public Forum, Aug. 7). AARP is asking its members only to urge congressional representatives to move forward on health-care reform, but has not asked them to vote yes on any particular plan. Several bills have emerged from House and Senate committees, and debate will resume on these bills after the August recess.

AARP has vigorously supported the process of health-care reform for years, and has expressed approval of several specific provisions contained in some of the bills, such as reducing Medicare prescription drug costs, but has not yet endorsed any particular piece of legislation. We continue to study several remaining areas of concern.

Tippet falsely criticizes AARP for “solicit(ing) votes when Congress has not even written the bill,” but, ironically, she clearly feels comfortable soliciting “no” votes for these same bills before they're complete.

Also, Tippet's claim that health care reform “may only provide comforting drugs to seniors because their care may be too expensive” is one that is not addressed in any of the pieces of legislation under consideration.

Unfortunately, this is pure rumor-mongering in an effort to scare seniors.
