I'll offer another one to you, Broken_Clock.

In Florida the insurance industry (successfully) lobbied the State legislature a couple of years back to allow them to sell policies that gave big discounts to folks who installed hurricane shutters on all their windows, and reinforced garage doors and such....

(This was after the companies got hit with massive losses and huge pay-outs for broken windows, interior damage and such after Andrew.)

The public took to this in a big way and a Hell of a lot of hurricane shutters were installed (at homeowner expense).

Now the insurance companies are back lobbying the legislature again... but this time they are asking for permission to DRASTICALLY REDUCE the policy discounts that they previously had asked for permission to give.

Seems (now that so many people have spent the dough to install protective hurricane shutters and reinforced doors and such, reducing damage potentials and probabilities) that they (the insurance companies) no longer think the discounts are such a good idea. They claim it 'adversely impacts their profits'. <GGG>
