I'll take the needs of the Secret Service to keep the president safe over the needs of some malcontent who just wants to look like a bad-ass.

The key is self-defense. Going around broadcasting to everyone that you're carrying a piece isn't "self-defense." Gangsters do that.

If you're going to a presidential rally but you still fear for your own safety, tough luck. The Secret Service sniper who has you in his crosshairs is going to have the last word. And I can guarantee you that his #1 concern is the safety of the president, not you.
