The grant program is designed to support university research and curriculum development at key universities through the donation of high-speed multimedia computers, workstations, servers, and networking hardware and software. Grants to 13 universities in this second phase of the program total more than $29 million, bringing the overall total donations to over $90 million. intel.com NEW 64-BIT PROCESSOR WILL EXTEND THE INTEL ARCHITECTURE Intel Corporation announced that the first member of its new family of 64-bit microprocessors, code named Merced(TM), is scheduled for production in 1999. The processor will be produced on Intel's 0.18 micron process technology, which is currently under development. The Merced processor will extend the Intel Architecture with new levels of performance and features for servers and workstations.
