Meanwhile we continue as a nation to sink into a circular firing squad mess. Not at all where I had hoped we might be by now, for a wide variety of reasons. But a disappointment nonetheless. The problem with honest, reasonable, pragmatic debate is that isn't passionate and it isn't fun. It doesn't usually get politicians elected or garner big ratings for talk show hosts. So instead of reason we get loud, vitriolic crap from all sides. The few voices of reason get lost in the shuffle. The only hope for surviving a circular firing squad is that some of the clods will miss, and others will be shot before they can get a round off themselves. But that doesn't leave much still standing.
