"The only reason why health insurance companies are being blamed (as opposed to Big Pharma, the AMA, nurses unions, etc.) is because they've been targeted by the Democrats for both political and ideological reasons."

Uh, no. When I was a kid, my sister was born with a lot of problems. Her Eustachian tubes were twisted leading to severe ear infections, she was club-footed, dyslexic and was allergic to just about everything. In other words, she was sick all the time. And the insurance company put my parents through hell. Denying coverage, "losing" paperwork, delaying payment, not paying what they agreed to pay, etc. The Big Pharma, the AMA, nurses unions, etc. had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I would expect them to work for just that. Lower costs means they can pass that off to their clients and shore up their profits at the same time.

Well obviously your expectation is wrong.

Insurance is, and always has been one of the most regulated (and reviled) industries because it is in essence legalized gambling. A necessary evil really (there you have your 'evil insurance companies quote').

If they truly to work to lower the provider payments, they would be obliged to pass that on to the insured with lower premiums. Lower revenue and lower GP. Betraying their fiduciary duty to their stock holders. And killing their executive stock options in the process.
