The chairman of the House Financial Services Committee—not one to suffer fools in or out of Congress—displayed little patience with the jeers and outlandish questions coming from constituents at a recent town hall meeting. (CNN has the video here.)

“When you ask me that question, I’m going to revert to my ethnic heritage and ask you a question: On what planet do you spend most of your time?” Frank said to a woman who aligned President Barack Obama’s plan for health care with the Nazi polices of Adolf Hitler. Frank is Jewish.

He continued: “Trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table,” he said. “I have no interest in doing it.”

Frank further rebuked attendees who were interrupting him with boos and jeers. “Disruption never helps your cause,” he said. “It just looks like you’re afraid to have rational discussion.”

“This is the Council on Aging, not kindergarten,” he quipped.

Another questioner asked the chairman if he would pledge to give up his “Cadillac” health care plan if the overhaul ultimately results in a “single-payer system.”

“Unfortunately there won’t be a government single-payer, I wish there would be, and I would join it,” Frank said. That was met by more boos, to which Frank responded: “I’m just curious, do you really think that’s thoughtful conversation?”
