FF, my son had brain surgery as a 4 year old - he had a cyst the size of an egg, if not larger.

the system worked well for him and it sounds like it worked well for you, too.

i do agree a government system would not work as well in similar circumstances.

some very smart and capable people would like to make decent cash and work reasonable hours, too. and not carry $100k in debt and have to worry about all the paperwork, etc.

i'm not sure those g-docs would be as bad you think, but i do agree that the docs in that system probably wouldn't be as good as going to the few gurus for much more money.

one problem is that everyone can't go to those gurus, even in the current system. the question is - who gets shut out and why.

as for cutting fees by 50%, a 50% price cut on hospital aspirin still makes each one several dollars, so i don't have enough information to gauge whether it was a real good deal. you seem to be happy, though, and that is what matters.

congrats on the good outcome.

Betsy McCaughey, the Republicrook who apparently invented the death panels concept, without using that term, was on The Daily Show today. She made a total fool of herself and performed even worse in the complete interview on the website. Though the conversation went on for a long time, this was the basic result:

Betsy: Isn't it terrible that Congress would write such a hideous thing in a bill?

Jon Stewart: Yes, it would be horrible if they had written it. But where did they write it?

BM (and she actually is a BM, at least in her mind): Here it is on page ... (And she reads the offending words).

JS: But that doesn't say what you say it says.

BM: Well, what about when they say...

And, of course, it doesn't say that, either.

I don't think she is actually as stupid as her performance would indicate. She is just so filled with hate for Americans and their government that her eyes are filling in words that aren't there.
