While I deplore rationing, it has been clear for some time that mammograms are not the public health bonanza they were expected to be. The question remains what to do about that given that breast cancer is cancer's poster child. I guess if I were making a recommendation it would be to stop the propaganda aimed at cranking up screenings and then leave individual decisions up to individual women and their doctors.
