The reality is the Rs have no say in the matter and so no "Republican proposal" matters. Neither Obama nor anyone in Congress is paying the slightest attention to them -- which is the reason the Ds are planning to "go it alone".

There's no point in putting together a bill if there's zero chance of it going forward. As a practical matter, the best they can do is try to stop the worst of what is inevitably going forward.

IMO nothing is required, the separate states should be doing this. It is not intrastate commerce. I suspect the insurance industry will sue the government if they come out with government backed government run health plane. The best the Feds can do is fund the states programs.
