Let's say you're the executive of the company which owns the hundreds of radio stations.

"Good gosh!", you say. "What is my reputation going to be when it becomes known I can't repay my corporate bonds because our revenue is down 2/3?" "Implausible! "Certainly we can find a way to pay back the debt we owe in 13 months with 'cheaper Dollars', does anyone know where we can buy some Dollars at a discount?" "The government won't let us file for bankruptcy - after all they didn't let GM file for bankruptcy - oh wait, bad example they did let GM file for bankruptcy."

The truth is this company is headed for bankruptcy. This is the same visit most firms made during the Great Depression.

The very concept of bankruptcy may lie outside of your experience, but you'll soon have a very solid education in this process.
