I like Australia where Medicare covers everyone and of course care is rationed. Any sensible business rations. Blue Cross, Cigna, Aetna, and every other private health insurer in America certainly rations care. Australians can also purchase private health insurance, which supplements the payments and services provided by Medicare. This gives you access to more types of drugs and treatments and sometimes posher surroundings. Although this private medical insurance typically costs only $1,200 a year only 23% of Australians purchase private insurance. The Howard government tried many schemes to increase the percentage of Australians who purchase private medical insurance, but 77% are clearly satisfied with Medicare. In England where per capita medical spending in half of that in America and one third less than in Australia, people are less happy with the National Health Service. Should that be a surprise? I'm also unaware of any private health cover option in England. That could be a factor as well. .

Health-care is rationed now. It's rationed by insurers. And it's rationed down to zero for those who don't have insurance. Every resource is rationed, one way or another. This is just an example of bringing up a scary word just to scare an audience. You can't trust the government Definitely, but that doesn't mean we don't use it to provide services. Government runs our military, Medicare, Social Security, VA Hospitals police & fire protection etc ... should we get rid of them all, because we don't trust govt? Plus, every other western democracy has universal health care, and we don't. I spend a lot of time in Australia and New Zealand, and their health care systems beats ours hands-down. Just a simple fact. And I don't see them turning into communist hell-holes as a result. But some Americans seem to think the US is uniquely impaired and can't meet that standard.
