In spite of the current stock market rally stocks are well off their highs - just as they are in Shanghai as well. Nominal price deflation is a funny thing. My Dad's Father saw his salary cut, like all employees at Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) during the Great Depression. Yet this reduced salary allowed them to purchase a much larger home in a better neighborhood in Los Angeles, new appliances, a new car, and also hire, a maid, a cook, a nanny for the twins and the other two children, and a gardener as well. Keep your income and you're affluent. .
