There are other alternatives to address the problem and obviously this administration is not interested in them, or for that matter in defending its plan.

Republicans have a history of opposing any progressive legislation. They opposed Social Security, Medicare, they oppose raising minimum wage and everything else that advances social well being. Now they oppose health care reform and organize these hysterical town meetings. Fortunately they speak for a small minority. Obama was elected by a wide margin and the centerpiece of his domestic program was health care reform. The Dems have strong Congressional majorities. Ram this thing through once and for all.. The people elected him and his program. Republicans'role is to bitch and moan.
