I think the insurance companies are generally wrong to do that. Usually it points to a work culture that forces the bottom line onto their rank-n-file over customer service.

The occasions on which this occurs is exceedingly rare and almost ALWAYS would result in a lawsuit that costs the payer far more than they would save by doing this.

People who believe this is a routine occurrence are watching too much TV.

That's not to say it NEVER happens, but any insurance company that did this as a matter of course would not be in business very long.

It is an absurd claim to any of us who knows about the business.

"What I'm actually in favor of are policies that represent win-win-win scenarios for the government, the insurance companies, and ultimately the public welfare."

Without ever saying what these Utopian, pie-in-the-sky polices ARE, or who's putting them forward.

Ted, > How do you feel about it when they deny someone an operation because it will hurt that profit?

The problem, of course, is that those of us on the outside never know how much their decisions are determined by their profit motivation.
