A former insurance executive (Wendell Potter, from Cigna) talking on CNBC right now making the point that health care rationing takes place now, but is done by insurance companies that are most interested in their bottom line, and see money paid for medical procedures as "losses" for the company, although now they are calling them costs rather losses.

Like, duh. Is this some sort of great revelation that has been hidden from view?

Another example of how the very loud voices screaming about government "rationing" is simply drowning out any reasoning on this topic.

That the evil profit motive in health insurance industry is not such a big deal.

There are plenty of people with insurance who work for companies that are self insured. There is no profit motive.

If the profits are removed from the small segment covered by a for profit insurer we still have the same problem with a few % saved.

Not for profit insurance has a similar objective, one is to at least break even the other for profit is to do better than even.

If the government could run SS, medicare and medicaid on at least a break even projection maybe we could have more faith in Obamacare.
