RE: Our trip to the Seneca casino. We did finally get to play Texas Hold'em for a few hours Fri night. It was a $2-$4 table that had mostly locals &/or regulars who were there to do what I've done elsewhere - to hold my own against the quality players & take the easy money from the wanna-bees who watch Texas Hold'em on TV. Looking back now, I wasn't totally on my game. That made me the mark. OOF! I had my share of good hands that got beat on the river. One hand I hit a queen high straight on the flop & even though & I raised every time [except the river], I lost to a guy who caught 2 straight low spades on the turn & river to fill his flush. Or, I start with pocket rockets [2 aces] only to see 6's pair on the river & lose to a dude who stayed in with a 6-9 off suit even though I raised all the way to the river. Or, lose a hand with 2 pair to the same 2 pair but he's got a higher 5th card. Or, lose all 6 times I get pocket pairs, including aces [I ended up folding 3 times after the flop & once on the turn]. Bottom line; since I was quite frustrated by not being able to play until the night before we leave, I made one huge mistake. In my desire to play, I stayed in to see too many flops & even too many turns. Anyone who plays Hold'em knows that is a recipe to lose your stake. I have no one to blame but myself. In 3+ hours I lost about $135 which is by far my worst Hold'em loss. Since I wasn't able to play low limit we did hit some table games & played video poker too. The video poker payouts insured a decent house advantage, so I only played them twice. Fortunately, the casino bar had video poker so Wed night I got tanked on Yuengling Lager [at least you get quick service there]. I played for about 4 hrs It cost me $70 to get a mild hangover. Thurs afternoon was time for spa, sauna, pool & the hot tub. Thurs night we played Caribbean stud. It probably has the highest house advantage, but I don't like Black Jack, roulette was crowded, had had zero, double zero & a $10 minimum & I can't play craps [I can't stand in one place without intense pain]. My wife watched me play for an hour or so before she played. I played about 4 hrs. Between us we lost $18 [I won overall, but not much]. We played with some very nice folks at the table. One player, Dan, won $268,000 on the Progressive Payout a few months earlier. It was a fun time there. Fri afternoon, my wife played some slots for chits & giggles. She quit after she lost $11 in 10 minutes. We had a late lunch, then it was time for more spa stuff. Fri night after the Hold'em table broke up my wife went back to our room & I played some video poker for a couple of hrs. I quit when I was down $20. Not too bad since I had 2 beers & 2 Pepsi's. We opted to check out & leave Sat morning rather than stay & play. As noted in the last post nothing angers me more than being lied to or intentionally misled. No matter how you spin it I was not told the whole truth by anyone at the casino [including their website] even though my multiple queries were quite specific about the availability of low limit 7 card stud & Hold'em. In spite of this we had a decent time, but a return trip is in doubt.
