When China shoots some of us in the back when we flee to Hong Kong or over the mountains from Tibet or murders us in the middle of Beijing for hanging around in the square, there are more of us than they can kill. The reason good triumphs over evil is because there is logic to it. Evil is just entropy by another name. Those doing evil can even believe they are doing good and normally do. Ridding the world of vermin seems logical to them. But of course vermin disagree that their lives are surplus to requirements, seeing the world quite differently. Before evil can exist, good has to first of all be there and the extent of evil can never exceed the totality of good. The absolute most evil that can be done is that all good ceases to exist too, but each good that is destroyed takes with it some of the evil. It's a losing bet. Evil cannot win because existence is all there is. Even with all atomic bombs and everything else all being used in the biggest MAD moment in biological history won't [contrary to common myth] kill everyone. Very far from it. There would be great numbers still left lurking in villages and hamlets everywhere, especially in the southern hemisphere where there would necessarily be far less radioactive dust due to the huge proportion of ocean. Evil can do only so much. So although Huaweian efforts have parasites on them providing ammunition to the murdering totalitarians to shoot unarmed civilians in the back, the parasites can't actually take over. Similarly, Qualcomm and my taxes are taken to fund wrongful killings at times [though Lt William Calley expressed remorse recently as did McNamara long ago]. But even if ALL of Huawei's and Qualcomm's efforts are confiscated, leaving nothing and no good, all that can happen is that evil runs out of fizz as the geese laying the golden eggs are killed off. Evil can only exist if there is first a Huawei and Qualcomm bringing peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love. Soldiers want to be paid. Not many will work hard at their job for the mere fun of sadism. When the cash dries up, they are likely as not to consider the possibility of a coup to get directly at the source of cash. 8 years since the invasion of Afghanistan and the situation is deteriorating. That's because there are very very few unarmed civilians and armed terrorist evil-doers being killed. The numbers are so few that there are plenty more left. In fact, the breeding rate exceeds the numbers killed. 8 years is the best part of a decade. We can start to consider the scope of the 100 year war. Perhaps 100 years is not so long after all. The crusades ran for a long time too. It seems odd to me to have worked hard at enormous cost to kill Saddam Hussein and his two sons, to then work as hard in Afghanistan to put Dostum in charge. He even looks like Saddam. But the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Even during the worst of Mao's maelstrom, Stalin's purges and Adolf's exterminations, Pol Pot's re-education, there are swarms of unarmed civilians who manage to avoid the evil. Eventually, one way or another, the evil runs out of steam. China remained in poverty for decades as a result, but the good wasn't totally revoked. It lurks here and there. Unarmed civilians are like that - we just keep coming. When all the unarmed civilians are dead and everyone is a soldier, they'll have to learn to plant crops. Carrying their guns will be hard work while stooped to pick rice. They'll have to put their guns aside and turn to good. Perhaps you meant the technology and not the taxes? <but what about the unarmed civilians being murdered by the thousands with aid of the qcom's of this world? > A cyberphone has no intrinsic evil. It has intrinsic good. An axon and synapse have intrinsic good - they enable cognition. CDMA phragmented photons are just tools for communication. They are no more evil than are the four forces of the apocalypse = strong and weak force, electromagnetic and gravity. They are just physical effects. The fifth force, consciousness, is where the evil lurks. Mqurice
