These technologies were closely held by the military for purposes of National security. After it was made available to the public, the private sector embraced and adopted it very quickly.

On the other hand, the ADA programming language, which is also a ARPA product did not catch on since the technology was that good to compete against the software technologies that are available.

This a very good parallel with the healthcare and public option. The choice is available. This is all about choice and free market competition. Ironic that those who advocate choice and free market competition now find themselves on the wrong side of the health care debate.
