Fine. I guess I wasn't taking "illegal" literally although in retrospect I see that it might have been intended that way. I was just treating that point as a suggestion to move away from doing health insurance via employers, something I approve. Bump people's salaries up by the amount now going to insurance and let them buy their own and change the tax code accordingly.

It seemed like that general direction was something we could all agree on so I chose to interpret it as agreement in principle. Around here agreement is hard to get so you grab what you can. Sure, a better way to implement it would just be to change the tax system to facilitate it rather than passing a law against it.
