WASHINGTON--Senate Judiciary chairman Orrin
Hatch (R-Utah), commenting on the Microsoft
antitrust case, said today it is illegal for one
company to require that others notify it before
talking to government investigators.

Hatch was asked if he believed it was legal to say
to companies, "You can't talk to the government
before you talk to us."

"Nope," the Utah Republican replied in a brief
hallway interview in a Capitol office building. "I
don't think it is."
