TJ, there are always conspiracies. <and supposedly, inflation and deflation is part of a conspiracy plan > Any time there is more than one person there is a quorum for a conspiracy and it is not long before they are hatching one.

The air is thick with them, from big ones like Islamic Jihad, Catholicism, Communists, Freemasons, to middle ranking ones such as Zionists, the GSM Cartel, Gay rights, Black Power, Feminist sexists, the American Medical Association, to little ones like the Ku Klutz Klan, the IRA, Basques, Falun Gong [proportionately though large in numbers], to tiny ones like Timothy McVeigh's Invictus freedom fighters, and minuscule ones lacking a quorum such as Ted Kaczynski's "Industrial Society and Its Future" though anti-globalisation riots suggest he's not alone and Luddites abound: en.wikisource.org progress war, and my humble Qi conspiracy.

Sometimes the most powerful ones are the smallest. Jesus with his dozen non-violent disciples overthrew the Roman Empire and Catholicism took up headquarters right there in Rome with Saint Peters Basilica making Roman Empire construction and global reach look amateurish.

The power comes from the ideas and the benefits to people that arise from the conspiracy. When conspiracies are self-serving against the interests of the middle couple of standard deviations of the normal distribution curve of humanity writ large, they are likely to be skooshed, quickly or slowly.

The US$ is a conspiracy of the owners of the Federal Reserve and those who conspire with them to profit from the debts and transactions of the rest of us. Each state-run fiat currency is more of the same on a smaller scale.

The Hunt brothers tried to corner the silver market in a conspiracy to speculate on the expected huge price run .... ooops-a-daisy, sometimes conspiracies go belly up with the conspirators in as much trouble as Guy Fawkes on a Bonfire of the Vanities.

The bare bum Aztec conspiracists are hoping to corner the market in gold and lurk waiting for the perhaps deliberate supernova of the US$ and the cry "Audit then abolish the Fed. Bring back the gold standard". All that gold that has been dug over 1000s of years is somewhere or other, mostly in possession of somebody rather than lost at the bottom of the sea.

Suppose a lot of it is in the possession of people owning and running the Federal Reserve banks. It would be richly ironic and an excellent conspiracy if those wishing to overthrow the Federal Reserve obligingly cause the very thing that the Federal Reserve beneficiary conspiracists want. In another time and place, they would be called "useful idiots".

But there is lurking a far more powerful conspiracy. When Qi bursts forth across the planet, those kleptocratic state-run fiat currencies and gold will be allocated to more suitable purposes than their current currency. 5 billion people will arrive in the Promised Land. The other billion or so might prefer some other transaction mode. A good conspiracy needs only a couple of standard deviations around the middle of the normal distribution curve.

En garde,
Mqurice
