Probably not directly. There is some concern that multinational corporations who do business there would be hurt, particularly if the peg on the Hong Kong dollar is lifted. But it would help some American companies that manufacture over there. Our market wasn't affected when the Japanese market went from 40,000 to 14,000. The currency crisis is something that makes a lot of people nervous, only because it may have a ripple effect on the other developing nations. If they all had to raise inteerest rates to defend their currency, it could trigger recessions, which would result in less consumption.
