"The proletariat and peasants of days past, lived just horrible lives, ruled too often by cruel kings and feudal lords and tribal chiefs, or sociopathic corporatists."

They would not be "RULED" by anybody in Rand's philosophy.

"I have never seen any compassion in her writings? Maybe I missed it"

It is not unusual to miss things. Millions of marriages go on toward disaster because on or both partners keep getting stung by the truth and thinking it might have been a wasp.

"We, as a society, no longer allow slavery, segregation or even civil rights abuses."

It doesn't get more Randian than that, methinks!

"Ayn Rand would say, they can just quit and the free market will make everything OK. But of course that is just not how life works."

I guess that makes sense if you are the guy in the union while some qualified person goes to the soup kitchen!

"Ayn Rand, I am sure would have no problem with private prisons."

That is just silly! Rand is not an anarchist. She believes in SOCIETY. CAPICHE??!! Her entire philosophy is about having OBJECTIVE standards and POLICING so that people do not take law into their own hands. LAW is a fundamental value for Rand. You probably don't want to get into uncertain statements with me because I don't need to google the answers my (still esteemed) friend.

"she does not recognize the rights of society within a democracy"

What are you talking about?? What "RIGHTS" are you talking about??

As I read your posts I conclude that you are not too far from socialism. You are certainly a "Liberal". You believe in a "social conscience". You believe in a social "duty".

Strangely (even though you are clearly beyond religion), you do not seem to have gotten beyond humans?

I love water and trees and rabbits and wolves. They survive according (in modern usage) to OBJECTIVE EVENTS AND VALUES. I don't guess their survival; is based to much on mind but I suppose you get the point. People are not trees--unless we are born very defective.

But even then we could join a union! Sorry, couldn't resist!!
