E On the 17th of August a local woman had a "letter to the editor" published in my small town newspaper. Her first words were "We need to pass Health Care reform, and we need to pass it now." She went on and listed 8 reasons why we needed to "pass health care reform now" and included this address: www.healthreform.gov at the end of each paragraph. I think just about everyone reads the Letters to the Editor, it is a very effective forum, and feeling a need to respond, I wrote this letter yesterday and submitted it to the editor of the same newspaper. If we don't fight back with facts and information that encourage people to do their own research we might as well roll over and give up. I borrowed a few lines from some folks here....I hope they don't mind. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Editor: Gosh Ms. xxxxxxx letter to the editor in the Aug 17th edition of the WW, with its numerous references to www.government/government/government links galore looked like an advertisement for Obamacare. I do wonder if she was paid to post that letter considering the huge amount of money…….. $150 Million dollars…… that big Pharma promised President Obama they’d spend on pro-health care advertisements this fall? I’d like to take just a moment to address the other side of this very important issue. First I’d like to say that I don’t believe the government has any business in life, death or heath issues. Those issues belong to me and I share them with my Doctor. Since it seems I am helpless to stop this intrusive and obsessive snooping………I am pleading with Democrat party members to please, please allow your Republican colleagues from across the isle to participate and contribute to the discussion about our health care. From what information I can gather this is not happening at all. In fact Representative Tom Price makes quite an assertion about these proceedings, claiming that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned members of the Health Care Conference they would be “shut out” if they discussed the health care issue with Republicans. The video is available on YouTube at this address. Ether that or just type in “Tom Price” at Youtube.youtube.com Americans are skeptical of any health plan where our representatives are given only hours to read over 1000 pages of legislation that were written behind closed doors in some cases by congressional staffers, before voting. Voter ire is particularly piqued when they hear their representatives say the (particularly outrageous) things that Rep. John Conyers said during his speech at a National Press Club luncheon quoted below.“The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.), questioned the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill. “I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill,’” said Conyers. “What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?” Americans should rightly demand that our representatives read every page of legislation before voting especially considering the huge cost implications….estimated to be over 1 Trillions dollars. Americans are entitled to know whether their representatives have read and understand each and every word of such a bill. That is what millions of Americans are asking for at the now famous Town Hall meetings that are taking place across the country during the August recess. I laugh when I read that our highly paid representatives are taking a “recess” as that is what happens in Elementary school. After watching what has been happening in WDC over health care legislation, I sometimes think it is an apt comparison. As an example, and just recently uncovered by an astute blogger who has taken the time to read the bill were these passages:Section 431(a) of the bill says that the IRS must divulge taxpayer identity information, including the filing status, the modified adjusted gross income, the number of dependents, and "other information as is prescribed by" regulation. That information will be provided to the new Health Choices Commissioner and state health programs and used to determine who qualifies for "affordability credits." Section 245(b)(2)(A) says the IRS must divulge tax return details -- there's no specified limit on what's available or unavailable -- to the Health Choices Commissioner. The purpose, again, is to verify "affordability credits." Section 1801(a) says that the Social Security Administration can obtain tax return data on anyone who may be eligible for a "low-income prescription drug subsidy" but has not applied for it. I must ask………how many Americans want this kind of language inserted into this heath care bill? How many Americans want the privacy of their health care available to potentially nosy, dishonest, malicious and/or malcontented federal employees? If these sections………….among many other questionable sections which are too numerous to mention here………..are included in a National Health Care bill Americans deserve to know what they are and must insist that our representatives take the time and make an effort to include every member of congress and the Senate in the argument as well as have an honest and open discussion with all Americans. Unfortunately, my representatives declined to conduct town hall meetings denying us average folks the opportunity to let them know how we feel about this bill or just answering questions. To be sure, I have personally written, called and emailed every one of my representatives, and I encourage others to do the same. I urge all Americans to become informed and look at the content of any and all bills brought forth for consideration. Ask questions and research all available resources. Relying solely on the Government for information……..as in Ms xxxxxxxxxx case……regarding our health care is a recipe for disaster. After all …………Medicare, Social Security and numerous other government run agencies are poorly run and are in fact going broke. You have to ask a few questions. 1. What makes you think the government will run a National Health Care program any better than they run SS, Medicare, Amtrak etc? 2. Why is there no mention of Tort reform in the current plan? 3. Why is there no mention of Interstate commerce regarding private medical health plans? 4. Why are our representatives not required to take the same health care that all Americans will be required to take? 5 Why does the current plan include illegal immigrants? Found at “The American Thinker” blog” "Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option...H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on non-citizens-whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently-participating in the Exchange."americanthinker.com It is hard enough for hard working Americans to support themselves and their families AND pay their taxes. Why should they not receive answers to the questions mentioned above, and why should they pay for the health care of non-citizens? Sincerely,
