I was discharged from the hospital yesterday after a 3 day stay.

Told everyone I saw that Medicare was paying and asked if I would be on the Obamacare program.

Everyone responded. Here are two.

One of my nurses was young and black. She smiled and said she did not understand or agree with the speed of the changes. She thinks our systems are much too complex to change overnight without full discussion.

My white primary care doctor said the only way to cut costs is for everyone to pay something for medical care. He thinks every procedure and every medication should have a cost share provision regardless of income, and the patient should know that cost upfront. He said many doctors are paid (at least partially) by the number of tests they order. He opined that too many tests are done for marginal reasons. If the doctors had to tell patients what their cost-share would be, many patients would decline the tests.

I thought my treatment was appropriate and saw no obvious waste.
