Nope--actually I think just the opposite. Republicans poll far worse than either Democrats or Obama. They aren't interested in an actual dialogue, they are just interested in obfuscation and stalling. The administration needs to be more assertive in the dialogue, instead of allowing the "Gang of Six" and their "friends" to confuse people. The Obama people thought they could allow the two houses to craft their bills, and then step in at the conference table to influence the compromise that would inevitably happen. Won't work that way. They didn't reckon on the lies and distortions that have been thrown around, and the resulting confusion. Even though in a sense he has nothing to do with, he looks like less of a leader because it is happening.
