That has been very obvious to we liberals for 100 years. It was never an accident that the most racist states in the country are in the bible belt.

It is the same manifestation that shows statistically that the more religious one is, the more often they will tolerate torture, and the less religious, the less they will tolerate torture.

Our common culture implies the opposite is true.

The people like Hannity, O'Reillly and Beck and Palin are saying nothing. Nothing at all. Just stringing words together.

But the big clue is their anger. What kind of world does hate spawn. We just saw that with Cheney, Bush and Rove. And always see that with the right wing. Joe Macarthy and the "red scare".

They want the death penalty, harsh sentences, torture, and lots of guns. And they do not look out for the children. Bush vetoed raising the minimum wage, pay increases for the military and insurance for the chidlren.

Our culture reamins upside down while the rest of western democracies have righted themselves to a larger degree.

Many politicians do not know that. Liberals know it cold.

Some guy did a comparison between the South and Blue states like Mass. It turns out that more people go to church on Sunday in Mass. and they are less likely to get a divorce. If I find it, I will post it here.

PS here's the article I was referencing up above and two more that follow the same line of thinking:
