that seems to be an argument that we didn't kill as many people before b/c we weren't efficient enough to do it - which doesn't bode well for the "humanity is getting more moral" believers.

humans have been pretty shady since day one, imho.

the united states *was* a bit different for a while (at least for some groups of people), but i think we probably agree we are rather quickly regressing to the mean.

regarding the idea of using "intelligence" to fight the BS that is going on right now, i think you miss the salient point that people vote what they think they will get - and it doesn't matter if it is stupid or net harmful. if they are promised more than pay in, they vote that way - in spite of intelligence or reasonableness. jmho - but i think history makes this pretty obvious.
