And in the case of my sister, the ER was a mess, that needs an overall. The main doc on her case was in general not a bad doc, just really bad in her case. so lose a licence? no. but some sort of recourse. mostly I felt bad for the other staff... the nurses and techs etc... they simply did not have the time to spend. and my sister the rn, the one in the coma, had explained all that to me. so i was only annoyed at the guys who put her straps too tight and did not notice her sores, bad bad bad dangerous for a diabetic. but again, they didn't really have time. they were trying to save time by strapping her tighter. we worked it out, thought... granted with a tad of me backing them against walls and appearing far larger than I am. but we did. so in her case, the doc was wrong. and it has affected her life ever since. but in general he is a fine doc. so what is the recourse? I don't know the answer to that, Chinu. as you say, money does not fix things. and she is on diability, but she was already. however, until that, she had hopes of working again. but now... all disability. yes, she paid in a lot. but that comes from all of us. and she has medicaid. but still with all her med things, she pays out over 500 or so a month on meds. she has to go to the hospital once a monthish to clean her stint or for this or that, and only so much is paid for. she had saved well, had a house she sold and invested it carefully. but it's a burden. and the burden was made deeper by not only a mistake... which if the dudedoc had said it, fine... but he never said it. he actually tried to convince she drank antifreeze. sis #2, who is the mildest person in the world - even milder than sis #3, went balistic on him... yelled at him (as much as she is able) that DS had tried suicide before, in a painless way, and that is the only way she would do it. not no antifreeze. (sorry, but I laughed when I heard her. then I realized it was time for not-mild #4 to get up in some faces. poor mild #2 being pushed to such limits)... point is... mistakes were made. they should simply have been admitted. and when mistakes disable people, we do pay for it. so tort reform might save on one end, but what about the other end? and what about people who hadn't earned and saved like my sister or has parents who deliver in a pinch?
