Wasn't it her husband, who felt (a person can believe him or not) that that was her wish. I know it would be my wish. I got it writ down so there is no confusion, as do all in my family. the govt at that time was trying to interfere in a private matter to gain political points.

and, Chinu... you missed the 60's here, yes? and have you read not only of the civil war, but the decades before, and the 100 years after. the loud voices are nothing new. and at certain times, certain compromises are against the soul, imo. when we compromised at the beginning of this country and allowed slavery, that was a stain. when we did the Missouri compromise before the Civil War, we deepened the stain. when after the war, we compromised with the southern states to allow Jim Crow, that stain took over the soul of our nation. The same voices are shouting now as shouted all 250 whatever years. It is time to turn deaf ears to such 'compromise' and do what is right.

We had to decide to pass the civil rights act in the 60's or not, inspite of the yelling. what compromise could there be? compromise before led us 100 years later to need such an act. 'compromise' is not always the way. we already did compromise... we gave up single payer. a choice of a publc plan is the compromise. if they say no, so be it. but we must move forward regardless, and let their shouting die in the wind.
