That's my favorite forest. I went to HS in La Canada (shhhh, it is a fancy town so don't tell). I spent many hours driving up the road from there and hiking. and cutting to the left a ways up and riding over to then turn right to head for Apple Valley to see a friend from Bakersfield days.

I love those woods. 550,000 left? Let's hope we can keep that number close to that.

That's where I lived in the 70's and we had a big fire that they were afraid might jump Foothill blvd. it was quite something. ashes falling so thick from the sky.

I'd pray for rain, but this time of year there... well, that ain't likely. still air, and cooler temps....

Sis #3's children are all off to college in other parts of the country, but she lives in Monrovia. Not right up next to the mts, but close. I always worry of that when these blazes happen.

There will be lots of time for recriminations after the flames are out....but doesn't the EPA and other agencies cut any of the brush??? I can't even imagine how terrible it is to have more than 1/6 of our forest burnt....plus all the animals who live there...

I feel so very sorry for the families of the fallen firemen, but for all of the firemen and their families. What a really very necessary, but terrible, job.
