Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2009 09:17:28 -0400 Dear Bill, I am a physician in Pennsylvania and could not be quiet any longer. Here is just one point that I would like you and Fox News to be aware of as you continue to discuss Health Care Reform as I have not heard it be addressed... Doctors in private practice have contracts with insurance companies and can choose which plans, and therefore patients, they will accept. A large factor in this choice is reimbursement and the likelihood that the physician will receive the fee they bill for and that it will be received in a timely manner. There are fewer and fewer physicians in private practice who accept Medicaid, a government plan, specifically because they are reimbursed at a lower rate and in a delayed fashion. Lower reimbursement rates and delayed payments jeopardize the ability of a private practice physician to keep their office, a small business, open and drive the need for physicians to see more and more patients a day. This is something the auto industry is just realizing as it has been reported that the 'Cash for Clunkers' funds are delayed and some claims have been denied; terms physicians have become accustomed to when submitting bills to Medicaid. In light of this reality, I find it hard to believe that the government can guarantee that you will be able to keep your physician under a public plan. Yours truly, xxxx xxxxxx, D.O.
