I won't be one to dispute Joseph Campbell's assertions, although I prefer to paraphrase his words as follows: "Understand the myth and be liberated." Joseph Campbell, and several others, like Northrup Frye, have, in the past 50 years, made an enormous contribution to the world's knowledge. It may take one or two generations for their contributions to permeate the general wisdom of humankind. I only wish that our political leaders were "baptised" in their contributions. The world would be a much better palce were it so.
