Spooner, PC Week Online 10.29.97 6:00 pm ET Digital Equipment Corp. will take the channel by storm next Monday when it introduces a new family of HiNote VP notebook PCs and cuts prices on the HiNote VP 500 series by as much as 15 percent. Digital's HiNote VP 700 family will include three models. The HiNote VP 715 and 735 will ship in the United States, while the 710 will be available in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The 735 will feature Intel Corp.'s latest 233MHz Pentium Processor with MMX Technology and a 13.3-inch XGA active-matrix display coupled with smart battery technology. The notebook will also come standard with 32MB of RAM, a 20-speed CD-ROM/floppy Combo Drive (which fits into a bay that can also accommodate a second battery or a DVD-ROM drive) and a 4GB hard drive. The 735 will sell for an estimated street price of $4,999. Digital's HiNote VP 715, priced at $3,799, will offer Intel's 166MHz Pentium Processor with MMX Technology and a 2.1GB hard drive. The HiNote VP 710, which will feature a 13-inch dual-scan display and Intel's 166MHz Pentium Processor with MMX Technology, will sell for $2,799 (U.S.). As for the HiNote VP 500 line, its five models, which are now priced between $1,999 and $3,499, will range in price from $1,799 to $2,999. The HiNote VP 565, with a 133MHz Pentium processor, a 12.1-inch display, 16MB of RAM and a 1.4GB hard drive, will sell for $2,299, down from $2,699.
