I expected to see Obama immediately start pouring money into infrastructure maintenance and replacement - real homeland security issues. Instead he's ramping up the military commitment to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is unfinished business and it's important to undermining the credibility of the Taliban/Al Q'aida. And it threatens to destabilize Pakistan (and the tenuous peace with India). It also borders Iran, which increases our ability to pressure that government.

They've got the right guy in charge there now, McChrystal.. He was pretty good at what he accomplished in Iraq, although he avoided the headlines.

That said, I concur that more needs to be spent on securing our borders and identifying those people currently living in our country.

These are legitimate gov't expenditures.
