How is that any different from the immediately preceding six years in Afghanistan?

(At least now we are not ignoring the Pakistan component of the Af-Pak quite as much, and targeted strikes inside Pak. territory [hundreds since the election] have taken out many high-value Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders, who previously enjoyed sanctuary and succor and support across the border.)
