So what you are saying is that the war CANNOT be 'won'.

(In that you might very well be right... I'm leaning in that direction too but I'm not entirely convinced of it just yet. I believe there are some things that haven't been tried yet. For example, we could possibly get behind the notion of a 'Greater Pastunistan'....)

Odds are though that your conclusion may be right... and only very PARTIAL gains are realistically possible for us from this point.

So long as Pakistan continues to want to keep Afghanistan weak and divided as a 'buffer' for them against Iran to their West, and so they can focus all of their military attention to their East against India, it may be 'rock / hard place' for us.
