I guess we agree. Read the last few sentences of my post.

Besides, I was talking about technology working for the Afghans, not the USSR. The current absence of Afghan technology means that the US losses are less significant than those suffered by the USSR.

This does not mean the US will win, only that it will take more time before the US losses become so unpalatable that the US decides to pull out. So far, the US has lost just over 800 men.

The USSR lost over 14,000 men. The "victorious" Afghanis lost over a million people.

Plus, it's a war on "terror," so the US has a moral imperative to "win." Whereas the USSR was simply helping the USSR-friendly Afghan government fight its civil war opponent, the mujahadeen.
