My grandfather made a lot of money trading stocks in the thirties. I believe his broker did as well.

When the stimulus (government spending, lowered capital reserve requirements for the banks, accomodative interest rate policy from the Fed) was WITHDRAWN a bit too early... America (& the world) tumbled right back into recession, and the Great Depression was doubled in length.

Only the stimulative government spending on the World War finally pulled America out of the Depression (but spiked our national debt to 20th. Century highs....)

It is a delicate balancing act that must be managed... many trade-offs.
