Peter, I think I may have liked John McCain more than you did.

Yet you did not vote for him and I did. It appears your fondness is fickle. Or you prefer socialism over liberalism.

I get the feeling that he didn't meet your criteria because he wasn't TOTALLY in favor of every position that you liked.

The key word here is majority. He is mostly a liberal with a few conservative values. I appreciate that neither he nor Senator Liebermann were willing to through our military efforts under the bus for political expediency. That does not mean that I agree with their views for expanding government.

I think Iraq is a good example of the deficits of democracy. The Neo-cons thought that we could throw out Saddam and then that whole country would love us and we could just PICK their next president and everything would be wonderful.

That is a bizarre thing to post. I don't believe that you honestly believe it. Freedom includes the freedom to be stupid. We tried to stack the deck to ensure that it was not just a single totally free election ending in a totalitarian dictatorship. For not wanting our treasures to be wasted on replacing the dictators you blame President Bush?

The trouble with Democracy is that you CAN'T control it.

American Democrats sure get their panties in a wad when they lose control. They proved that by their disloyalty to our country during the last President's terms.

The link I posted to you earlier did not work. I brought Carolyn's post forward. There is a fact check correction about its purported origin. IMHO misattribution does not invalidate its poignancy.
