i spoke with a salesman there, when i saw the pathetic display, i rolled my eyes, and the guy said 'i know, pitiful, right?'

we talked for a few minutes, i told him how surprised i was at the lack of inventory, for example the handbag dept. had about HALF as many display gondolas as usual, and they were sparsely populated, he said, take a walk over into the men's dept....he said they had rolled out sofas and chairs and tables in the middle of the dept. so it wouldn't look barren...

seriously, how can high end dept. stores survive if they

don't have inventory to sell? fixed costs will eat them alive
